Research Centres

Our research centres are well-established, highly-focussed centres of thematic excellence with a critical mass of experienced researchers with numerous ongoing funded projects.

Centres
Digital Imaging Research Centre (DIRC)
Offering expertise in computer vision, image processing and computer graphics.
Mobile Information and Network Technologies (MINT)
Focuses on research in areas of wireless communications and mobile technologies for health care.

Research Groups

Our research groups, often inter-disciplinary, are smaller groups of researchers who combine together recent research interests to pursue a thematic research area. Such groupings will often cross the boundaries of centres and may include researchers in other Faculties.

Research Groups
Component and Distributed Systems Research Group (CODIS)
Software architectures supporting component-based and distributed applications with a special focus on generic, extensible and flexible systems.
Mobile Information Engineering and E-Med Systems (MOMED)
Bio-information systems and the application of emerging mobile and network technologies for health care systems.
Visual Surveillance Research Group (VSRG)
Monitoring, classifying and reasoning about people and vehicles in public environments.
Wireless Multimedia and Networking Research Group (WMN)
Fundamental and applied research on wireless communications, networking and media streaming
Collaborative Groups
Bioimaging Group (BIG)
Using light microscopy and image analysis to understand cell function and dynamic processes in cells.
Bioinformatics and Genomic Signal Processing (BioGSP)
Analysis of genomics and proteomics data using statistical, machine learning and signal processing techniques developed in MINT and DIRC.
Computational Language, Acoustic and Speech Processing Group (CLASP)
Linking people with interests in various aspects of spoken, written, printed and electronically-stored natural language, and the processing of sound signals.
Distributed Robotics and Intelligent Spaces Collaborative Group (DRIS)
Distributed intelligence using robotic platforms
Healthcare (HRG)
Human Body Motion Group (HBM)
Extraction, analysis and synthesis of human motion using video footage and motion capture data.
Learning Technology Research Group (LTRG)
Improving learning and teaching through the investigation, development and use of IT technologies.
Scientific Analysis and Visualisation Centre (SAVIC)
Developing techniques for the analysis of diverse image and signal data
User Experience (Ux)
Develops and applies the models, methods, rules and tools necessary to create systems that are useful, usable, accpetable, persuasive, credible...
